私はAmazonプライムで「Collateral beauty」を観た。
2016年のアメリカのクリスマス映画。邦題は「素晴らしきかな、人生」である。これは1946年の映画「素晴らしき哉、人生」（原題”It's wonderful life”）を想起させる。制作チームの裏話が動画で、その作品を意識したことが語られている。原題の意味を考えると、原題のままがいいと思う。
物語は、娘を失い、妻と別れた主人公を救済するために、優しい嘘をついていく友人と愛・時間・死を演じる役者たちの話だ。ファンシーなプロットをシナリオが現実世界と繋げていく。出演者のひとり、女優のKate Winsletは言う。「母にシナリオを見せたら、ぜひ出演しなさい、って言ったのよ」と。シナリオにチカラがあると、役者や製作チームを動かして、次第に作品となり、観客に届けていける。
しかも、暗くなる話に笑い（コメディ）を入れて、バランスをとりながら、ゴールデンな配役により、役者たちは、しなやかにファンタジーなシナリオをリアルに構築していく。また1946の"It`s wonderful life"では、負債を抱えた主人公が自分のいない世界にいくが、翼のない天使により、お金は戻らないが、娘と妻のいる元の世界に戻る。そして、奇跡が起きて、会社を救うための寄付が集まり、お金を手に入れる。翼のない天使は翼をもらい、ハッピーエンドとなり、画面にエンドマークがでてくる。
昔はそれでよかったのである。しかし50年後の現在は"Collateral beauty”である。
"Collateral beauty”では、主人公は会社を手放し、娘の「死」を受け入れて、妻と歩みを進めていく。翼のない天使３人は、ふたりを見守っている。
そういう意味では、ふたつの映画はともに翼のない天使からのクリスマスのギフト。
余談である。シナリオを読んで、「これに出演したい！」「これを監督したい！」とにかくそう思ってもらえるものなら、カタチになっていく。あらためて認識する。
私は2017年にアメリカのテキサスに旅行したとき、そこには映画にでてくるアメリカがあって、私は「『アメリカ』が存在する」と感じた。 "Collateral beauty" はその前年に公開されている。当時のアメリカの都会の姿だろう。
”喪失”を体験すると多くの人は「得ること」に臆病になる。また失うことがわかっているから、失うことを恐れる。信頼も友情も愛情も富も名誉も「得ること」を拒否してしまう。持っている者は与えるし、持たざる者は”虚無”になっていく。その先を知る人は、そこに来た人に "Collateral beauty"を伝える。それは、赤の他人にやさしくなれる気持ちであり、慈愛の気持ち、誰かの"翼のない天使”になる物語の始まりかもしれない。
ふたつの映画は、どちらも家族と友人と翼のない天使（赤の他人）が主人公に影響を与える話だ。私は”翼のない天使たち”が溢れた街でクリスマスに起こる奇跡の物語を描いてみたくなる。もちろん、コメディを忘れずに。
I watched "Collateral beauty" on Amazon Prime.
American Christmas movie of 2016. The Japanese title is "A Wonderful Life." It is reminiscent of the 1946 film "It's wonderful life". The story behind the production team is shown in the video, and they talk about how they were conscious of the work. Considering the meaning of the original title, I think it is better to keep the original title.
The story is about his friends who lie kindly in order to save the protagonist who has lost his daughter and separated from his wife,and actors who play love, time, death. The fancy plot is connected to the real world by the scenario. One of the performers, actress Kate Winslet, says: "I showed my mom the script and she told me to be in it." When there is power in the scenario, the actors and the production team can be moved to gradually become a work and delivered to the audience.
Moreover, while adding laughter (comedy) to the dark story and balancing it, the actors flexibly build a fantasy scenario realistically through the golden casting. Also in 1946's "It's a wonderful life", the debted protagonist goes to a world without himself, but an angel without wings returns him to the original world with his daughter and wife, although the money is not returned. Then, a miracle happens, and donations are collected to save the company, and money is obtained. The wingless angel receives wings, which leads to a happy ending and an end mark appears on the screen.
In the past, that was fine. But 50 years later, it's "Collateral beauty."
In "Collateral beauty", the protagonist lets go of the company, accepts the "death" of his daughter, and moves on with his wife. Three angels withour wings watch over them.
In that sense, both films are Christmas gifts from angels without wings.
I digress. Read the script and think, "I want to star in this!" or "I want to direct this!" Anyway, if you can think so, it will take shape. Recognize it again.
When I traveled to Texas in 2017, there was an America in the movies, and I felt that "America" existed. "Collateral beauty" had been released the year before.
It must have been the state of urban America at that time.
When people experience "loss," they become timid about "gaining." I am afraid of losing because I know I will lose it again. They refuse to "gain" trust, friendship, affection, wealth, and honor. Those who have it give, and those who don't have it become "void." Those who know what lies ahead tell the person who comes there "Collateral beauty". It may be the beginning of a feeling of being kind to others in red, a feeling of compassion, and becoming someone's "Angel without wings."
Both films tell the story of family and friends and a wingless angel (a stranger in red) who influences the main character. I want to tell the story of a miracle that happens at Christmas in a city full of "Angel without wings". Of course, without forgetting comedy.
